This hoodie is heavy (about the weight as two pair of jeans), well crafted, and fit as expected. 5'7 180# and order most jackets in size L to get a little extra room for layering. Length is a few inches past my belt) which I like. Too many jackets these days are shorter in length. Brought a large and no surprises. Enough room for two additional layer (heavy sweatshirt and/or down vest) without looking bulky. YKK zipper is smooth as butter. The hood is heavy, it will not get blown away by wind while over your head. Wish there is an inside chest pocket for phone storage. The zipper could extend maybe another 2 inches up the hood to keep wind out. You can wear a sweater down to mid 30's and feel comfortable. Lower temperature than that will definitely need extra layering. Otherwise it's an excellent jacket for the price. Highly recommended.

Here is my conclusion: This Carhartt Thermal Lined Hoodie keeps me warm in most all conditions except for extreme cold, and the zip-to-chin design and water-repellent fabric helps keep the precipitation out. This hoodie is a nice option to wear on cold, but not extremely cold, days where you think your work jacket might be too warm.
But the thing I like about these Carhartt Rain Defender hoodies is they also make for great base layers to wear underneath your work jacket during those brutally cold, extreme winter days. One thing that distinguishes this hoodie compared to the other Carhartt hoodies I tried is this hoodie has the loosest fit. If you prefer extra breathing room in your outerwear, this will be the best insulated Carhartt hoodie for you. Overall, this is nice water-repellent option especially for those of you who want an insulated hoodie that feels like a jacket when you wear it.

It is a quilt-lined hoodie that has Poly-fil insulation that is very good at trapping heat, but is also lightweight and non-bulky.
