Apple iMac Delivers 2x Performance Boost with 9th-Generation Intel and Vega

Customers are going to love the huge boost in iMac performance. With up to 8-core processors and powerful Vega graphics, the iMac lineup is stronger than ever. With its stunning Retina display, amazing design, twice the performance, and macOS Mojave that our customers love, iMac is by far the best desktop in the world.

In the company press release for the "2019" iMac, Apple's headline is "iMac gets a 2x performance boost," so it is a safe bet that the performance increase is significant at least with specific tests.

Apple iMac Gets a 2x Performance Boost

Ultimately, the "2019" iMac models provide a significant speed boost compared to their predecessors in overall performance and graphics performance, particularly in multicore tasks. To get a "2x performance boost" from a "2019" iMac over the "Mid-2017" iMac line, though, it is clear that you will need to be using heavily optimized software that can take full advantage of both the multicore processor and the high-end custom configured graphics processor.

The Fsv2-series runs on 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Platinum 8272CL (Cascade Lake) processors and Intel Xeon Platinum 8168 (Skylake) processors. It features a sustained all core Turbo clock speed of 3.4 GHz and a maximum single-core turbo frequency of 3.7 GHz. Intel AVX-512 instructions are new on Intel Scalable Processors. These instructions provide up to a 2X performance boost to vector processing workloads on both single and double precision floating point operations. In other words, they're really fast for any computational workload. At a lower per-hour list price, the Fsv2-series is the best value in price-performance in the Azure portfolio based on the Azure Compute Unit (ACU) per vCPU.

Now the company is equipping its most advanced laptop with the newly announced M1 Pro and M1 Max processors. The addition of the M1 Max will give a 4x graphics performance boost to the 16-inch MacBook Pro over its predecessor, and the M1 Pro will be 2.5x better than the previous generation, according to Apple. Both chips provide a 2x CPU boost over the 2019 MacBook Pro.

The minimum amount of RAM that Apple puts into an iMac now is 8GB. Up to very recently, there were more 4GB iMacs out there, but I would say that if you have less than 8GB, you will see a performance boost from increasing your RAM.

Enable Dual Core: A powerful option for gaining performance that has no downsides some of the time. May cause various random issues caused by splitting the CPU and GPU threads onto different cores. The most common downside to this performance boost is the risk for random "Unknown Opcode" issues and the associated crashes. Dolphin will usually disable Dual Core in games that are especially sensitive to CPU GPU desyncs.

Datadog is the monitoring and analytics platform for developers, operations, and business users in the cloud age. "We're excited the Graviton2 instances are now generally available. We've seen our own developer productivity increase as these instances have boosted the performance of key continuous integration pipelines by 50%," said Jimmy Caputo, Product Manager at Datadog. "With the Datadog Agent for Graviton / Arm, all AWS customers can use Datadog to monitor the Graviton2 instance performance alongside the rest of their infrastructure.

If your Mac mini is running out of storage, or your Mac is still utilizing an HDD instead of an SSD, there is no better upgrade than an OWC SSD. Not only can you increase your internal storage up to 4.0TB for many Mac mini models, but you will also notice a significant performance boost if upgrading from an HDD. The upgrade process is straightforward and should only take about 15 minutes to complete.

Up until recently, the Mac Mini has been one of the more modular and expansive Macs you can buy. So if you own a Mac Mini made between 2006-2014, there are two primary ways to upgrade it that will provide a noticeable boost in performance: you can add more RAM and/or replace the original hard drive with a compatible SSD.

However, this information in itself is enough to rule out an early debut for PowerVR Rogue on the GPU side: a 2x performance boost simply doesn't do justice to IMG's achievement with its next-gen chipset, if our sources are to be believed. However, scaling up from a PowerVR SGX543 MP2 as found in the 4S's A5 chip to an A5X-style SGX543 MP4 would be entirely in keeping with Apple's known practices.

When it comes to doubling performance on a graphics part, there are two routes available: up the clock speed and take the hit to battery power, or double the amount of processors and produce larger, more expensive chips. Bearing in mind Apple's history in lavishing silicon on its mobile hardware, a move up to the new iPad's level of GPU power seems like the easiest and most likely route to achieving the 2x performance boost mooted by the marketing.

It's in the improved CPU performance that questions remain. Once again, there's nothing to stop Apple simply using the same dual-core Cortex A9s employed in the A5 and A5X and simply bumping up the clock speed. It's believed that Apple has employed the use of Samsung's 32nm fabrication process in the iPhone 5, as it did in its test outing in the revised version of the iPad 2 (which handed in substantial extra battery life as a result) - but quite how much extra thermal headroom that gives the engineers for increasing clock speeds is unknown. Alternatively, core count could be doubled, as we see with Tegra 3 and the PlayStation Vita processor. The other theory being mooted by analysts is that Apple has brought forward one part of the "next-gen" equation by switching to ARM Cortex A15 processors - or a hybrid variation, as seen in the Snapdragon S4 processor - which offer significant power efficiency and performance boosts over the existing A9s.

However, actual metrics from Apple to back up the 2x performance boost claim proved to be few and far between: discussion of various app launching speed improvements, image saving from iPhoto and attachment viewing all looked good at between 1.7x to 2.1x better than the same task being performed on the iPhone 4S, but how much of this is down to faster flash memory, faster and/or larger system RAM or the dual-channel memory bus first introduced in the new iPad? These are somewhat bizarre metrics to flourish in discussing CPU or GPU improvements, leaving the door open to the possibility that the A6 may well have much more in common with the A5X on an architectural level than perhaps we are being led to believe.

According to Apple, the boost in performance shouldn't affect the battery life. In fact, the strides made in the processor department mean that the battery life should now last even longer - 20 hours, in fact, which would see it better the 18 hours of the new MacBook Air.

Apple claims that the base M1 Max Mac Studio is up to 2.5 times faster than the 27-inch iPad, and the new desktop even outperforms the current Intel-powered Mac Pro with a 16-core Xeon processor by up to 50%. Graphics gets a 3.4x boost on the Studio compared to the 27-inch iMac, and Apple said GPU performance on the Studio is better than on the Mac Pro.

TorchScript graph-mode inference performance on x86 CPU is boosted by adding channels last and BF16 support to NNC. PyTorch users may benefit from channels last optimization on most popular x86 CPUs and benefit from BF16 optimization on Intel Cooper Lake Processor and Sapphire Rapids Processor. >2X geomean performance boost is observed on broad vision models with these two optimizations on Intel Cooper Lake Processor.

Raid 10 arrays consist of two or more equally sized RAID 1 arrays. The data in a RAID 10 array is both striped and mirrored. This gives you both an boost in performance as well as data protection. The main downside of a RAID 10 array is that any drive segment is limited to the smallest drive in the array.

RAID 60 is similar to RAID 50. The main difference is that RAID 60 requires 8 drives and contains two RAID 6 arrays. This configuration provides enhanced data protection because it uses two sets of parity data and the striping provides a performance boost.

Get a performance boost with NVIDIA DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling). AI-specialized Tensor Cores on GeForce RTX GPUs give your games a speed boost with uncompromised image quality. This lets you crank up the settings and resolution for an even better visual experience.

USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 is a multi-lane operation for new hosts and devices, allowing for up to two lanes of 10 Gbps operation to realise a theoretical 20Gbps data transfer rate. It delivers a strong performance boost to meet essential demands for USB storage. It allows the user to transfer data between devices quicker and supports backwards compatibility, addressing any concerns related to functionality with your older technology. Backwards compatibility implies that new drives support existing USB specifications.

The front camera, which sits in that notch, has received a huge boost to 1080p. It also has twice the low-light performance and uses machine learning to enhance visual quality. A new three-mic array with a 60% lower noise floor is also included, as is a six-speaker sound system with new woofers that Apple said provide 80% more bass and can go half an octave deeper than its previous woofer design.

Still, the performance boosts that Apple is advertising are pretty mind blowing, and could open up a new world of portable high-performance computing for professionals of all stripes, be they data analysts or graphic designers.

Last but not least, consider contacting your internet service provider and asking for help. If the ISP truly cares about their customers, they will help you remotely diagnose your WiFi performance issues or even send over a technician to measure your WiFi signal strength and help you boost wireless signal.

Despite this flaw, the WiFi range booster can offer a lot of value thanks to its great performance, MU-MIMO support, and a physical WPS button. Both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands are supported, so you should be able to achieve great speeds even in areas with lots of interference. 2ff7e9595c
