Ubisoft recently announced it would pull the plug on a number of its older games, stopping online and multiplayer support. Titles affected by this move include Anno 2070, Far Cry 3, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, and Assassin's Creed 2.
The team behind the city-building and economic simulation game will now "dedicate some of [its] development resources to work on upgrading Anno 2070's aged online services infrastructure to a new system".

Thank you for your work on the game.Anno 2070 is still the best Anno I played.Unfortunately, since the update, all my save games disappeared. This is very unfortunate. I loved to perfect and expand my island world. Now, this is a setback as all the hundreds of hours I lovingly put into the game are now gone.I only played now and then but always loved to move on. Now I would have to start all over again which is really sobering.

HIIIjust passing to express my thanks for your compromisse with us the players, I loved the anno series for many years now. I cant play the new ones for lack of better equipament haha, so it was sad the news of losing the dlcs and online stuff. So im very happy to be able to continue playing and whem got a better pc you bet I will be on the new ones.Hope there is more futuristic annos coming hehe, my favorite theme.

Wie Ubisoft Mainz in einem aktuellen Blog-Eintrag mitteilt, steht das dafür notwendige Update bereits in den Startlöchern - und soll ab dem 6. September ausgerollt werden. "Wir haben diesen Sommer hart daran gearbeitet, das Spiel zu aktualisieren, verschiedene Legacy Online-Dienste zu aktualisieren und zu ersetzen und zu testen, ob am Ende alles reibungslos läuft", teilen die Macher mit. Dabei wurden zunächst der Singleplayer-Modus und später der Mehrspieler-Part angepasst. Auch die Migration des Spielerfortschritts nahmen sich die Entwickler zur Brust.
Nach der Installation des neuen Anno 2070-Updates könnt ihr weiterhin an den Weltereignissen teilnehmen. "Ihr werdet auch euren gesamten Fortschritt behalten und eure existierenden Spielstände mitsamt der Arche und deren Inhalte weiterspielen können", schreibt Ubisoft Mainz. Auch Multiplayer-Spieler können sich wieder in die Partien stürzen und den Vorherrschafts-Modus oder ein reguläres Mehrspieler-Spiel starten - wahlweise im Koop oder gegeneinander. Dabei bringt das Update eine weitere Besonderheit mit sich: Durch die Portierung auf 64-Bit sollte Anno 2070 sogar noch etwas flüssiger laufen als zuvor, weil das Programm nun den gesamten Arbeitsspeicher eures Systems auslasten kann. Zudem sollen die neuen Online-Dienste für ein besseres Matchmaking sorgen. Die Freundesliste im Spiel bleibt bestehen.
